The Cost of Procedures in the Treatment of Eye Pathologies by Transplantation of Autologous Stem Cells
The Mardaleishvili Medical Centre’s Eye Clinic carries out treatment by transplantation of the patient’s own stem cells from the bone marrow for the following diagnoses:
- Atrophy of the optic nerve
- Nystagmus
- Amblyopia
- Dystrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium
The procedure includes the following:
- Consultation with an ophthalmologist
- Consultation with a neurologist
- Consultation with an anesthesiologist
- Blood analysis
- OCT (optical coherence tomography)
- Gonioscopy
- Electrophysiological examination of the eye and optic nerve
- Computer perimetry (with a minimum of 10% of vision)
- Laser iridotomy (when the angle of the eye’s anterior chamber is narrow or closed)
- Bone marrow sampling under general anesthesia by aspiration from the ilium
- Isolation of stem cells by density gradient centrifugation (Ficoll method)
- Suspension of stem cells in an isotonic solution or a special solution for transfusion
- Introduction of hematopoietic and mesenchymal stem cells intravitreally, retrobulbarly, intrathecally, and/or intravenously
- Final consultation and recommendations
- Remote monitoring for 12 months
